Hopefully that answers your questions. The only payment involved is purchase and future chapters. However, you will not need the new chapters to stay competitive.

New chapters will also have as much content (or more) then the actual game. So it's worth the purchase, but like I said, you don't have to.

Once you buy the game, you can play as long as you want without having to pay another cent if you don't want to.
